  • Burke's landed gentry, ed. 1937 - Lumsden of Pitcaple " Bihar Light Horse. It would appear the troopers joined Lumsden's Horse from various units, , the Calcutta Light Horse, the Assam Valley, the Surma Valley, and the Punjab, Mysore and Rangoon Volunteer Corps. The Henry Charles Lumsden, who joined as a trooper from the Bihar Light Horse, was a son of the Lumsdens of Pitcaple. He was an indigo planter. He was killed in the first action of the regiment at Thabanchu on 30 April 1900. The Boers, finding his name on the body, thought he was the Commanding Officer, and gave him a full military burial.
