John Somerville 1795 - 1885
John Somerville , sometime tutor in the family of President Jackson, and Professor of Languages in the University of Sydney, New South Wales. December 22nd, 1852. 4266 SAINT LAWRENCE GRAMMAR SCHOOL. JOHN SOMERVILLE, Esq., of tho University of Edinburgh, has been appointed master of this school. Mr. Somerville is very strongly recommended, as an experienced and most effi- cient teacher, by many eminent professors and parents, both in Scotland and in America. The Rev. Dr. Muir, of Edinburgh, says, " Mr. Somer- ville has been known to me duriug many years,. He is a good man - ell principled in his religious views, and pious in his feelings, and correct and amiable in his whole deportment. His scholar- ship is of a first-rate order." I beg leave to inti- mate that St. Lawrence Grammar School will be re-opened, under the superintendence of Mr. Somerville, at 9 o'clock a m. on Monday, January 3rd, 1853.
