Alan Bell, `Garnett, Richard (1835-1906)', Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, Oxford University Press, 2004 [http://www.oxforddnb.com/view/article/33334, accessed 23 Sept 2005] "his great-grandson Richard is quoted a tall man with a scholar's stoop, and he wore an old frock-coat pulled out of shape by the books in its large pockets. His face was short and square, with a short nose and a short beard, and he wore the usual gold-rimmed spectacles of his day. His manner of speech was gentle and humorous, with the remains of a Yorkshire accent, and so measured that one could tell where each mark of punctuation was due to fall. (R. Garnett, Constance Garnett, 1991, 48)"
