, suceeded to Revesby Abbey on the death of his father and to Overton on the death of his uncle. educ. Eton. He also bought 14 New Burlington St., London ca. 1766. d.s.p. Educ. Harrow (1752-1756) then Eton (1756-1760), then Christ Church, Oxford from 1760. English naturalist. English naturalist. Accompanied Cook's expedition round the world in the Endeavour, equipped by himself (1768-71); visited Hebrides and Iceland (1772). President of Royal Society (1778-1820). Aided settlement in New South Wales.
