Rev. Samuel Gilbert Beal 1842 - post 1911
Rev. Samuel Gilbert Beal , Pupil at Rossal Sch., Fleetwood, Lancs. (1861). Clerk In Holy Orders Rector Of Romaldkirk (1911). Ian Stoyle wrote: Apparently he angered Bishop Philpotts, the Bishop of Exeter, with a sermon on "The Unity of Brotherhood", and the Bishop refused to promote him from deacon to full priest. The Bishop of Norwich supported him and wanted to ordain him in the Diocese of Norwich, but Philipotts blocked this. So Dr Beal went to Ireland, where Philipotts had no influence, and was ordained there. Now a full priest, he was eligible to take on the living in Norfolk.
