Mary Ann Brady c. 1835 - 1908
Mary Ann Brady , RC. Maria left England on the 2nd May 1855 aboard the ship "South Sea". She arrived into Port Adelaide some two to three months later, on the 30th July 1855. Maria's entry in the ship's passenger index notes her as being 19 years of age at the time, and as a servant by calling, a member of the Roman Catholic faith. She is thought to have travelled alone, the reasons for her sailing unknown. "Southern Cross" Catholic newspaper of 26th June 1908. It reads: "Our Carrieton correspondent writes: ? It is with regret I have to report the death of Mrs G. Bullen of Eurelia. The deceased lady was in her usual health until about six weeks before her death, when she was suddenly seized with pneumonia. Dr Deravin did all that he could for her, and she had the assistance of a first class nurse from Adelaide, in Nurse Potter, still she never got off her bed again. The Reverend Father O'Flynn prepared her for a happy death. The deceased lady came to this State about 53 years ago, and was married in Seven Hills, near Clare. Her husband and self went to Victoria, but only spent a few years there, returning to South Australia, and when the Hundred of Eurelia was open for selection they selected land there, and carried on farming very successfully during the past 32 years. The deceased lady was a good Catholic, devout and religious, and very attentive to the sacraments, and gave her children a good religious education. She was also an active worker in assisting any movement promoted in aid of the Church, such as bazaars, picnics, concerts, socials, etc. and she was also an excellent neighbour. Her loss is therefore deeply felt by all and much sympathy is expressed for Mr Bullen and family. The deceased lady was 74 years of age. She was buried at the Eurelia cemetery and a large number of traps, horsemen and bicycles followed her remains to their last resting place. Father O'Flynn officiated at the grave. The deceased leaves three sons, one daughter, and husband to mourn their loss. RIP."
