Patrick (Paddy) Theobald Tower Butler , only son. Obit. http://www.igrsoc.org/ Paddy as he was known to his friends was President of this Society from 1971-1991. He was a keen genealogist, contributing articles to The Irish Genealogist and was involved from the outset in The Butler Society; he was always helpful to those interested in a Butler descent and supportive of The Irish Peers Association. He descended from Sir Thomas Butler, or Le Botilier who was summoned as an Irish Peer to the Irish Parliament in 1324 and who was the younger brother of Sir Edward Le Botilier, Lord of Arklow and Earl of Carrick, Lord Justice of Ireland. Peter Butler, 2nd Lord Dunboyne obtained a grant at Grenagh, county Kilkenny, in 1371. Subsequent Lords married into the families of Barrett, Brien, Butler of Beulick, McCartie Reagh, Ormonde, Fitzpatrick, O'Brien, Fitzgerald of Desmond, Ikerrin, Hanley, Grace, Macnamara, O'Connell (related to The Liberator), Brander, Probyn and Tower. Through the Probyns Paddy was descended from the Ulster MacNaughtons. He qualified as a barrister in the Middle Temple and was appointed Circuit Judge in 1972. He made a formidable figure in his robes and as such, as the Irish would say, he could put the fear of God into all and sundry. He was actually a man of modest charm and easy manners and loyal to his friends. Paddy is survived by his wife Anna Marie Mallett whom he married in 1950 and he is succeeded by his son John Fitzwalter, to whom our sincere condolences are expressed.
