, Educated at the University of Oxford. He became a judge on the Court of the King's Bench in 1835 and served for 23 years. Upon retiring as a jurist, he became a member of the Privy Council. In 1825 he edited the famous Commentaries by the 18th-century British jurist Sir William Blackstone.
