Randall Fowke 1673 - 1745
Randall Fowke , Brought up in London, his best friend was a watchmaker of London, arrived in India by 11 July 1701 (Frank Rede Fowke gives 1711) having entered the service of the Hon. East India Co., writer (1703), having been discharged from the "Gun Room Crew", Fort St. George, 1703, factor (1711), councillor (1716), Paymaster (1723,4), subs. 2nd in Council, Fort St George (Madras), to Martin Pitt (Governor & President). In 1743 he was superceded in the Council under orders from England, by Morse, Monson and Hinde. In 1744 he petitioned for a pension. He was also active in diamond dealing etc. Place of birth not certain. He had other children. The family story is that he was 12 years old when his father was murdered, that he worked his way to india and entered the service of the East India Company. Formally appointed a Factor and rose to become second in Council. "Mr.Randal Fowke, in his statement to the President Richard Benyan Esq., the Governor and the Council, stated that his total collections, included the Sea Gate duty by Kanakapillais, Customs duty on good imported as also on export of grains and the Anchorage Charges.
