Mary Fowke , Educ. by governess, tutors and her father, she could read Italian and "accompany a concert of trio with the thro' bass in a very respectable way". She started to learn to play piano shortly after 1800 taught by Girolamo Maso, who had taught Mary's mother in Rome during her Grand Tour in 1789. Later his place was taken by Francesco Bianchi, an opera composer and popular teacher of the Italian style. (Bianchi committed suicide in 1810.) The next teacher was Thomas Greatorex, who was recommended by Cerbetto. He charged half a guinea for a 40 minute lesson. he was the only english born music teacher to be employed by the Fowke family at this time.
