Rev. Albert Fordham Giddings 1869 - 1936
Rev. Albert Fordham Giddings , Wesleyan Lay Agent (1891). Baptist minister (1901). He trained at the Baptist Theological College at Brighton Grove, Manchester (now Northern Baptist College (1999)). He was admitted there on probation in 1895, coming from Forest Hill in London. In 1896 he satisfactorily completed the probationary course and "was received upon the foundation". In Jun 1899 he left College and accepted the unanimous call to the church at Irwell Terrace, Bacup. Trinity Baptist Church, Irwell Terrace, Rev. A. F. Giddings 1899-1902. He was there until the end of 1902 when he moved to Liverpool, Aintree, which he left in 1905/6. He joined the Anglican ministry and was Liv. C. of St. Thomas, Wavertree, Liverpool, 1906, of 1 Heswell Rd, Aintree (1906) - Deacon, 1907-8 - Pastor. (address: 10, Ashfield, Wavertree, 1907), All StS. Hoole 1908-13, Deacon, Pastor; Clerk in Holy Orders (1911), Chaplain to Tarvin University. 1911-13, West Bromwich U. and Walsall and West Bromwich Poor Law School. 1913-17. Chaplain to Workhouse West Bromwich (1914), Vicar of St. Paul's, West Smethwick Diocese, Birmingham from 1917 until his death in 1936. When he died he was living at St. Paul's Vicarage, W. Smethwick, Birmingham. A memorial window was erected. The church burnt down in 1963. The Manchester Guardian June 27 1895 "The Baptist College, Manchester To fill the vacant places of those leaving college a very large number of applications had been received. From these the following had, on the recommendation of the Examining Committee, been received on the usual terms of probation:- ...; A.F. Giddings, Forest Hill." The Manchester Guardian Feb 3 1899 "In the Baptist Church... ; Mr. A.F. Giddings, of Manchester College, has accepted the pastorate of Irwell Terrace Church, Bacup;" The Manchester Guardian Jun 13 1906 "The Rev. Albert F. Giddings, who recently resigned the pastorate of the Baptist Church at Aintree, Liverpool, has been ordained deacon in the Anglican Church, and has been appointed to assist the rev. George Peters in the new parish of Wavertree." The Manchester Guardian Mar 15 1913 "The Rev. Albert fordham Giddings, curate of All Saints', Hoole, Chester, has been offered and has accepted the chaplaincy of the West Bromwich Union, one of the largest in the country. Mr. Giddings was curate of St Thomas, Wavertree, from 1900 to 1908. He was appointed curate of All Saints', Hoole, about five years ago, and is also chaplain of the Tarvin Union. Mr Giddings will leave Hoole within two months to take up his new duties."
