Sarah Giddings 1882 - 1979
Sarah Giddings , the last Giddings in Orwell. In 1895 at the age of thirteen, after her mother died, she went into service at New Town Farm as it was then called. It is now (1978) called Meadowcroft Farm. She ran a sweet shop with her father and lived at 59 High Street, Orwell. Staunch Methodist. 1901 census, was recorded in St. Paul's Parish, Cambridge, domestic servant, 35 Hills Rd. Cremated at Cambridge Crematorium April 4 1979 Died in Moorlands Nursing home, Melbourn, Cambridge March 29 1979. Funeral at Orwell Baptist Church.....the same year a memorial pedestal for flowers was given to the church.
