Giddings (Gideons/Giddens), Agricultural labourer (1841). of Victoria, Australia, formerly of Arrington and Whaddon, England, labourer. He had emigrated to Australia, dep. Southampton and arriving on 26th April 1848 on the Adelaide (or 22 June 1848 at Port Philip). He went to Upper Hawthorn, Melbourne to be a gardener in the government service with his 4 children (by probably his deceased 2nd wife) and his 3rd wife. He was a member of the LDS. His brother Simeon is noted on his arrival in Australia as having destination his brother William in Borondoro. Gardener (1879). He was admitted to hospital on 13 July 1876 and died shortly afterwards. He was recorded there as a labourer, with 8 children and also as a member of the LDS. Alexandra Morton's transcription of the ship's list includes" Gideon William 48 Labourer Waden Cambridgeshire Latter Day Saints Both Gideon Mary 24 Wife Waden Cambridgeshire Latter Day Saints Reads Gideon Adelaide 13 Daughter Waden Cambridgeshire Latter Day Saints Neither Gideon Jane 11 Daughter Waden Cambridgeshire Latter Day Saints Neither Gideon Stephen 4 Son Waden Cambridgeshire Latter Day Saints Neither He was a "Port Phillip Pioneer" and Beverley Young has a certificate to say she is descended from him and he is one.
