George Giddings (Giddinge) ante 1608 - post 1629
George Giddings (Giddinge), There were two George Giddings baptised at Clapham at about the same period; the first was the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Russell) Giddings, baptised 1 November 1607 and the other was the son of John & Joan (Purrier) Giddings, baptised 24 September 1609. The evidence for the conclusion that the emigrant was the George baptised in 1609 is circumstantial. "Geo Giddins" is listed as twenty-five years old in the April 1635 passenger list. This fits the 1609 George who would not have been twenty-six for several more months. The other George was fully two years older. However, ages in passenger lists were often mere estimates by the recorder and ages provided for George Giddings of Ipswich, Mass., in later documents would have been appropriate for either child.
