Max IV Anton Ludwig Gemmingen von Massenbach , of Pocking, near Munich (1937). 16th Baron Massenbach in the H.R. Empire, etc. (succ.1912 acc.to primogeniture his uncle Baron, "Karl IX.", his elder bros., "Ferdinand III. [1872-1953]" having abdicated 1898 his Rights of Family Succession), of Poeking-am-Starnbergersee, St. Zeno & Bad Reichenhall, etc., in Bavaria, Roy. Bavarian Court Chamberlain, Major Roy. Bavarian 9th Field Artillary Regt., 2nd Buergermeister of Bad Reichenhall & Obersalzburg, etc. Retaining (1/16th) Remainder Right of Succession to Massenbach he was co-succ. by his grandsons, "Peter IV. (* 1936)" and "Hans-Christof III. (* 1938)". Educ. Gymnasium at Neuberg an der Danube and Royal College of the Nobility for the Training of Pages in Wuerzburg. On the day he received his Arbitur he joined the bavarian 3rd Field Artillery Regmt. in Munich as a junker., prom. the following year to Flag Ensign and the next year (1895) to 2nd Lieutenant. In 1898 he underwent a 4 moth training course in munitions in Ingolstadt. During 1900 and 1901, he was attached to the Military Riding School in Munich. During this period he helped establish the 12th field Artillery Regmt. in Landau before he joined the 9th Field Artillery Regmt. in Dec. 1902 - a regiment which so many of the family served in. His children were educated by English governesses with their Karg von Bebenburg first cousins.
