Rt.Hon.Sir James Weir Hogg 1790 - 1876
Rt.Hon.Sir James Weir Hogg , educ. at Dr. Bruce's Academy in Belfast and at Trinity Coll. Dublin where he graduated in 1810 with a B.A.. He won a Gold Medal for oratory at TCD. He became a barrister and went to India 1814 joining the Bar there. He enjoyed a large and lucrative practice for 8 years. He was Registrar of the Supreme Court of Judicature and Vice-Admiralty Court at Calcutta. Returning to England 1833 a wealthy man he was MP for Beverley in Yorkshire (1834-47). In 1839 he was made director of HEIC and in 1846 he was its Chairman and created a Baronet the same year. He was offered but declined the Governorship of Bombay Presidency in 1853. He was a member of the India Council from its origins in 1858 - 1872 when on his retirement he was made a Privy Councillor. Issue - 7 sons and 7 daughters. Of Grosvenor sq., London.
