, merchant burgess of Dumfries (1608), purchased in 1611, the Maxwelton and other estates from Sir Robert Gordon, of Lochinvar, and took the designation "of Maxwelton". Notes & Queries, 1861 suggests Maxwelton was acquired in 1614. He is said to have purchased Redcastle of Urr too. 1618 he was MP for Dumfries. This is actually a Commissioner to the Convention of Royal Burghs rather than MP as we understand it in the 21stC.. Baillie of Dumfries, 1615-18 and possibly earlier too. JP for Dumfries 1618-37.
