Eliza Jane
Logan
, Is she related to Sir William Logan geologist? Logan was born in Montreal and educated in Scotland, though he did not progress beyond the first year medical course he began. He then worked in England and Wales, and in his early 30s managed a Swansea coal mine and copper smelter in which his uncle was a major investor. He quickly realized that coal supply for the smelters had to be guaranteed and this could be done only with the help of accurate maps of the coal seams. This began his professional interest in geology, and he produced maps that were so precise that the British geological survey published them. "
