Sir Oswald Mosley , of Ancoats, Lancs. 1871: 25th. May Thursday Sir Oswald Mosley, second baronet and last lord of the manor, died May 25. He was educated at Rugby and Oxford, where he was a gentleman commoner of Brazenose College, and took the M.A. degree in 1806. He was elected M.P. for Portarlington 1806, Winchilsea 1807, Midhurst 1816. After the Reform Bill he sat for North Staffordshire, 1832-37. He wrote A Short Account of the British Church, The History of Tutbury, and Family Memoirs. He had a strong interest in natural history, and contributed some interesting papers to the Zoologist. In 1845 he sold the manorial rights to the Corporation of Manchester for the sum of £200,000. (Mosley's Family Memoirs; Axon's Lancashire Gleanings.)
