Served in the Burmese War in 1852-53, and was present at the capture of Pegu, and recapture of Beeling (Medal with Clasp for Pegu). Was also engaged in suppressing the mutiny in Bengal with Maj.Gen.Whitlock's Force in 1858-59; commanded a detachment of his regiment under General Shubrick into the Mundlah district in pursuit of Rumnut Sing, a rebel chief of Rewah, from Nov 1859-Jan 1860. ? MI CHELTENHAM, GLOUCESTERSHIRE [BOROUGH CEMETERY]. 779. Sacred to the memory of/Harriett/widow of/Lieut Col. H.E. Ryves M.N.I/died 25th July 1886/aged 57 years.
