"David Salmon Subject: Adam Freer Smith - Galston Date: Fri, 23 Oct 1998 17:36:22 -0230 Hi everyone, I'm new to this list and am wondering if anyone could help me on some research into my ggggrandfather. All I know about him is that he came from Galston, I have no date of birth or death for him, but presume his date of birth to be late 1700's/early 1800's. His son my gggrandfather was born in Calcutta in 1834. According to an obituary of another of his sons he is described as "Mr Adam Freer Smith, of Galston, who was twice Sheriff of Calcutta." I know his wife was called Josephine, but I have no other information, whether they were married in Galston before he went to India, or whether he met and married Josephine in India? Any help would be much appreciated as at this moment I am a little out of the way in Newfoundland. Noted that he is also looking for information on Adam Freer Smith, born in Galston, Ayrshire, 01/06/1791, Merchant in Calcutta. Also looking for Alfred Bond, noted on his marriage certificate as being in the East India Company Marine Service. Not sure on his dob, but was married in St Pancras 6/04/1854 to Sarah Elizabeth Truman. Alfred's daughter, Maude Cotterell Bond, married Adam's son, David Boyes Smith in 1882.
