Archdale Wilson Tayler , Venn: TAYLER, ARCHDALE WILSON College: CHRIST'S Entered: Michs. 1777 Born: 1759 Died: Apr. 11, 1814 Adm. pens. (age 18) at CHRIST'S, Feb. 6, 1777. [Eldest] s. of Joseph (1738) (and Ann, dau. of John Wilson, of King's Lynn, Norfolk). B. 1759, at King's Lynn. Bapt. Jan. 22, 1759. School, King's Lynn. Matric. Michs. 1777. Resided until Lady Day, 1780. [His family adopted the Tayler spelling of the name early in the eighteenth century, to prevent confusion with a family of Taylor, also of King's Lynn.] Adm. at the Middle Temple, Nov. 15, 1775; migrated to the Inner Temple, Jan. 29, 1781. Freeman of King's Lynn. Inherited Knight Thorpe, Leics., from his maternal uncle, Archdale Wilson, but sold it in small parcels between c. 1797-1803. Lived at Morcott, Rutland, 1783-86; at Broughton-Pogis, Oxon., and finally at Boreham House, Herts., 1792-1812. Married, Jan. 3, 1783, at Alexton, Leics., Frances Elizabeth, dau. of Charles Hall, Dean of Bocking and sister of Dean Charles Henry Hall (for whom see D.N.B.), and had issue, 17 children, 9 sons, 8 dau., all of whom were alive when the youngest was 21. Lost his fortune owing to the dishonesty of an agent, and became Paymaster to the 11th Regt. of Foot, 1812. Died Apr. 11, 1814, at Centa. Brother of Joseph (1785); father of Henry J.
