Philip Charles Tennant 1867 - 1936
Philip Charles Tennant , Grew up in Chapel House. Lord of the Manor of Hatfield Peverel. 1891 census records him lodging in Cambridge st., London, W1, s, aged 33, Secretary to a Public Company Philip Tennant owned 2 oil companies; Redline Glycol and Blueline Glycol. After selling these to British Petroleum with a "non competition" clause, he became a director of two oil companies whose oil wells were in Ploesti in Romania. His "number two" man was Colonel Masterson who spoke most European languages. Colonel Masterson worked for the British Foreign Intelligence in World War II. Colonel Masterson was caught behind enemy lines and shot by the Gestapo. A.H. Beale remembers that Philip Tennant always bought him peaches even through World War II when fresh fruit was impossible to find. The Priory at Hatfield Peveral, Essex was the home of Philip Charles Tennant and was sold in 1936 on his death At the Priory, had 9 servants and 5 outside workers. Commuted 60 miles to London everyday.
