Sir John Walsh formerly Benn 1759 - 1825
Sir John Walsh formerly Benn, Dr. William Brownrigg was a great uncle, who got him appointed Writer to the HEIC. (Bt. cr. 14 Apr 1794), of Warfield, co. Berks., M.P. for Bletchingly (1802-6), formerly in the service of the Hon. East India Co., assigned as Secretary to Francis Fowke (his future wife's brother) in Benares, "the most corrupt Residency in India ... making a fortune of £80,000.oo from presents & opium contracting" which he doubled. On 4 April 1795, in pursuance of the last Will & Testament of Sir John Walsh, Baronet, (1726-95) -- his wife's uncle -- he adopted by Royal Sign Manuel the name & arms of Walsh in lieu of Benn, thus "enabling him to inherit a considerable fortune".
