, John WOMBWELL (1748-1813) has a plaque in the PC of Bathampton, Somerset. His cousin Sir George Wombwell, Bart (1734-1780) was Chairman of the EIC 1777-80. John Wombwell is reported to have gone out to Bengal in 1775, made a fortune in Lucknow and returned to London permanently in 1788. He had two children baptised in Cawnpore with only the father's name recorded.
