(1741); colonel and, later, commander of Leicester "blues"(1745-59); commander in chief of British contingent in Germany during Seven Years' War (from 1759); led British cavalry to victory over French at Warburg (1760); repulsed French attacks on Vellinghausen (1761); commander in chief of the forces (1766); subject of Junius's invectives.
