How to submit data to
The following refers to data entered to TMC Families :
| Back | Top |
Since this system is under construction, here offered are hints, rather than hard-and-fast advice. Suffice to say the system is based on SOFTLINKS operating on and with GEDCOM.
SOFTLINKS operates on GEDCOM, uses "Event GEDCOM". The ideal way to supply data is therefore as "Event GEDCOM". However most packages do not produce "Event GEDCOM". Fortunately ROOTS IV does.
ROOTS IV will convert from "standard" GEDCOM to "event GEDCOM". Indeed the vast majority of genealogical software packages will export to some kind of GEDCOM.
Because GEDCOM in itself does not support all the features here offered, LINKS uses a markup with GEDCOM. However this markup is not required to be imported into LINKS other than for use in some of its more advanced features.
Ideally each individual should have a permanent unique ID, but again this is not necessary. However, if individuals do not have permanent IDs, it is not then possible for LINKS to support inter-database links.
Various GEDCOM specifications are available on and from the WWW. It is recommended that any genealogy software used should support GEDCOM.
Sources of data other than from GEDCOM
If you have data in a form other than GEDCOM, LINKS may well be able to convert them too. At this stage it is not really possible to say in general how this might be done, but do Mail us if you are interested in this possibility.
Having in mind the above, we recommend ROOTS IV to enter data for submission to LINKS. Available from Commsoft Inc., offered by TMC Families are also their step-by-step instructions.
