Anthony Henley c. 1705 - 1748
Anthony Henley , The marriage of Anthony and Lady Elizabeth Henley was doomed. Anthony was a spendthrift and gambler and heavily in debt. He had spent the £10,000 from his wife's marriage settlement before he had even received it. They seem to have had two children. The first certainly died. In May 1730 The Times announced: "The Lady Betty Henley, Wife to Anthony Henley, Esq., member of Parliament for Southampton, was lately brought to Bed of a Son and Heir, their former Child dying last October". I have no record of what happened to this second child. In 1733 Lady Elizabeth Henley of the Grange, Hampshire, divorced Anthony Henley for adultery and cruelty. In 1745 she died in Ipswich, Suffolk and was buried on 30th Aug at Bramford, Suffolk. Three years later, on 24 Dec 1748, Anthony Henley died at the Grange, Hampshire. cf Sue Stead
