Lease [wanting] and release [Ne D 3578] from (1) and (2) to (3) of a capital messuage in Pavement or Market Street, Newark and commonly called the Saracen's Head Inn in the several tenures of (3), John Twentyman, Mary Dodsworth, Thomas Hudson, Mark Barnefather and Edward Wilson; also part of a close of pasture or enclosed ground in Newark called Dovecoat [Dovecote] Close containing by estimation 4 acres and in the tenure of (3); includes covenant that (1) and (2) will levy a fine of the property before the end of Hilary term next ensuing, and that the property will inure to (3). Second Party: John Herring, alderman of the Borough of Newark upon Trent, Nottinghamshire. Third Party: John Twentyman the elder, mercer of Newark upon Trent, Nottinghamshire. In consideration of the sum of £260 paid to (1) by (2), assignment from (1) to (3) of the unexpired residue of two terms of 500 years on mortgages recited at (a) and (b) below in trust for (2) to attend the inheritance; notes that the property in Appleton Gate is to be held in trust for John Twentyman the younger. Recitals: (a) details of a mortgage by demise dated 1 Aug. 1712 [wanting], the mortgaged property comprising part of the Saracen's Head Inn and a close of land; (b) details of a mortgage by demise dated 26 Mar. 1719 [wanting], the mortgaged property comprising all those messuages, shops and buildings from the east side of the Saracen's Head in Market Place to the pump in the yard of the inn, and also (3)'s interest in the reversion of a messuage in Appleton Gate after the death of Elizabeth Twentyman.
