Col. James Arden Crommelin , bengal Fusilliers. Index of "Historical Records of the Survey of India", Vol.4., 1830-1843, the entry:- "CROMMELIN, James Arden (1801-93), Ben.Engrs. (111, 435), 267." Also, in "Havelock" by Archibald Forbes, reprinted 1908, there is mention of a CROMMELIN, Chief Engineer, 1857. Also, on page 78 of Rosie Llewellyn-Jones' "A Fatal Friendship" there is mention of Lt.J.A.CROMELLIN of the Corps of Engineers involved with the erection of "Public Buildings and an Iron Bridge" .
