John Stephenson/Stevenson Ferguson 1763 - 1833
John Stephenson/Stevenson Ferguson , Esq. of Belfast. a linen merchant and founded the extensive firm of J. S. Ferguson and Co. whose offices were in the White linen Hall. In the early years of the l9th century he owned large bleach greens at Ballysillan and a paper mill at Antrim. He was President of the Belfast Chamber of Commerce from 1821 to 1832. He was a member of the committee of the Belfast Charitable Society and in the latter part of the previous century had been a Volunteer He also helped to found the Linenhall library. There was a brewery in Antrim called Messrs Ferguson and Fowke in the late 1700s. There were a John Ferguson and a John Fowke trading in Antrim as Ferguson and Fowke, merchants in 1840. This could have been his son and son-in law or grandson and son?
