Percy Sanden Godman , GODMAN AND RELATED FAMILIES: GENEALOGICAL COLLECTANEA COMPILED BY COLONEL SHERARD HAUGHTON GODMAN OF ESHER, 1745-1945 Reference Number: 755 Descriptive Information about the Record (click to expand) Provenance Presented by Miss Marjorie Clarke-Jervoise of Esher in August 1966. - Introduction These papers belonged to Miss Clarke-Jervoise's step-father, Col S H Godman. They are partly his own exploration of family history and partly that of his uncle Percy Sanden Godman of Muntham, Horsham in Sussex. The early representatives of the Godman family were at Kingston and Leatherhead and at Wivelsfield, Chichester, and elsewhere in Sussex. Col S H Godman (b.1865) was a grandson of Joseph Godman of Park Hatch in Hascombe. A substantial display of early Iranian pottery in the British Museum, the 'Godman Bequest', came from a granddaughter of the same Joseph Godman, Edith Godman (d.1982) who lived at South Lodge, Lower Beeding, Sussex. - The records - Related records P S Godman's book, Some Account of the Family of Godman, published privately by the author in 1896, was purchased by Surrey History Centre from Miss Clarke-Jervoise at the same time as these papers were presented. - Access Conditions There are no access restrictions.
