Capt. Frederick Halbert , His two sisters, Elizabeth and Sarah one after the other, married his brother in law, Pearce Crouch. Solicilry Junior clerk (1851). Can't find him in the English 1861-91 censuses incl. He was probably at sea. --------- Master's Certificate no. 15168. Class examined 1 M, Ellis Island records him: Halbert, Frederick English Pace of residence: Leyton, England September 19, 1908 age on arrival 72y 8m M M Ship: SS Philadelphia dep. Southampton, Southamptonshire, ?? Surely this should say Hampshire. England, UK According to the manifest, he was 5' 4" tall. Home address 105 Hainault Rd., Leytonstone, Essex. he was travelling with his dau, son in law and granddaughter. Mercantile clerk (1901 census). Retired ca 1894. Ships Manifest: Arriving New York 19th Sept 1908 Says he'd been to the states before 1883 to Philadelphia. See Off to Australia in the 'fifties / by D'Arcy Cresswell. Walter D'Arcy Cresswell 1896-1960 1939 which may have some diariy entries wriiten by him.
