, took the name of de vere in place of Hunt in commemoration of his descent from the old earls of OXford, his ancestor Vere hunt, esq., an officer in Cromwell's Army, who first settled in Ireland, having been the grandson of henry Hunt, esq. of Gosfield in Essex, by Jane, daughter of Aubrey de Vere, second son of John, the 15th Earl, and K.G., who died in 1539.
