, She was a pioneer in educational dramatics, writing the first edition of The Stage and the School in 1932. Her credentials include an M.A. from Stanford University as well as study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in England and the American Academy of Dramatic Art. Ms. Ommanney received numerous honours during her lifetime, including The Founders' Award from the SSTA Secondary Division of ATA and listings in Who's Who of American Women and Leaders in Education. During her retirement she Hawaii. The Maui Community Theater's annual Kitty Awards were established in her honour.
