, Born 27 Nov 1831 in Liskeard, bapt. 01 Jan 1832 1851 census records him at Corpus Christi Coll., Cambridge - a student. In the 1861 census, he is found in Weekham Skeith, in separate lodgings in the Rectory, a curate/clergyman, aged 29, born in Liskeard, Cornwall. He baptised his daughter Clare there and notes his occupation as clergyman in the parish record. Married London, Marylebone Parish Church on 9th April 1863 to Priscilla SMITH daughter of William Henry SMITH and his wife Mary Ann nee COOPER. 3rd witness at marriage was a Fanny PEEKE. In the 1871 census he is recorded as a curate. In the 1881 census, he, his wife and 4 children, their governess, Katherine BOWEN and 2 servants, Mary WEBSTER (her married name) and Agnes ELSWORTH (single), were recorded at the Rectory, Okeford Fitzpaine. In the 1891 census, he is recorded boarding in the house of Edward C. Wiggins in Brandon Villa, Bristol. At Okeford Fitzpaine, his wife is described as the head of the household and married. He died of cerebral haemorrhage at Walton House, Richmond Hill, Bournemouth (a SMITH property) on 30th July 1912 and was buried at Okeford Fitzpaine. Venn's entry reads: Phillips, John Henry. Adm. sizar at Corpuis Christi, Oct 18, 1849; re-adm. pens., June 29, 1849. Of Cornwall., matric. Michs. 1849; scholar 1850; B.A. 1853. C. of Petersfield, Hants. 1869-72. R. of Okeford-Fitzpaine, Dorset, 1872-91. Disappears from Crockford 1892. Father of Frank B. (1884) and Charles A.
