Oct. 22, 1806, at St Thomas's, Bombay. School, Harrow. Matric. Michs. 1824. Kept ten terms. Writer in the East India Co.'s Civil Service, 1827-59; Accountant-General and Member of Mint Committee, Madras; dismissed the Service, 1859. Author, Concordances to Milton and to Homer's Iliad. Married (1) 1830, Catherine J., dau. of Sir James Annesley; (2) 1854, Elizabeth S., dau. of General W. Justice. Died Nov. 5, 1887. The Prendergast Greek Studentship was founded in 1888 by his widow to commemorate her husband, who had at Trinity `acquired his great love for literature in general and for Greek literature in particular.' The PRO website has "Reference: IOR/F/4/1418/56010 Covering dates: Nov 1832-Jan 1833 Scope and Content The Madras Government take strong exception to an article in the `Madras Gazette' of 10 Nov 1832, signed `Old Cocker', which alleged that an unnamed person had corruptly received £10,000 when Officiating Resident of Mysore - the subject of the article is thought to be Guy Lushington Prendergast - question as to what legal action, if any, should be taken against the Editor of the Gazette.
