Edward
Prime
1805 - 1875

Edward
Prime
, farmer. Edward was just 18 years old when his father died intestate in 1823 leaving a substantial estate valued at about £1500. Edward eventually was given Grant to the estate in 1829 -six years following his father's death. It is interesting to note that Edward married Ann Coleman in 1827 during this interval of time while Grant was being established. Also his sister Elizabeth Ann Prime married to John Coleman in 1832. John Coleman had been party to the signing of the Grant letter in 1829. The early to late 19th century would have probably seen the greatest prominence of the Prime family in Barrington since their arrival circa 1590. Edward's brother Henry would have been playing a prominent role at this time. One presumes that Henry received from his brother Edward part of their fathers inheritance in 1829 and this becomes clear when focusing on Henry's Will at his early death in 1837. The Will dwells on a sum of £1200 which Edward has seemingly borrowed from his brother Henry under a Bond dated 1833. 1851 census records him as a farmer of 320 acres employing 20 men and 4 boys. He had gone to his bed in good health on Friday night but, complaining of some illness, did not get up next morning. About noon, his son ( Mr. Edward PRIME ) was called to his bedroom, and in about five minutes death ensued. An inquest touching the matter was held at The Royal Oak, before C. W. Palmer, Wsq., on Monday, when Mr. E. W. Parkinson, who had made a post-mortem examination of the body of the deceased gave it as his opinion that death arose from fatty degeneration of the heart. Verdict " Natural Causes." ( 9 Oct, P. 4 )"
