John's occupation shown as farmer of 400 acres employing 3 labourers and 3 boys. All the children born in Llanfihangel Nant Melan. maybe he was the unmarried shepherd at Llanwenny, Llanfihangel-nant-Melan (also born there ca. 1865) for the 1881 census, his sister, Margaret aged 20 also unmarried as head of house - a housekeeper. Poss. aged 26, the son of John aged 64 b.Llanfihangel Nant Melan, farmer, and Margaret agd 62 b. Llanbailanfawr, other children Aaron aged 19, Richard aged 14 and Sarah aged 15 all born Llanfihangel Nant Melan, as well as 5 servants recorded at Rheweg in Llanfihangel Nant Melan, Llandegley for the 1891 census.. 1901 census has the same family at the same place. - John, widower Thomas, Aaron (married), Richard unm, Sarah unm. + 3 servants and 1 visitor. By 1926 he and his wife were living at Bryn Curl, Lyonshall, Herefordshire. He was living there when he died in 1948.
