, Poet, revolutionary and scholar. Italian poet and political refugee from Naples; as member of secret society of Carbonari took part in Napoleonic revolution of 1820 and saluted it with patriotic odes; fled on return to power of King Ferdinand (1824); professor of Italian, King' s Coll., London (1831-47); eccentric commentator on Dante, showing the Inferno chiefly political and antipapal.
