Richard Kitson] He lived at Huntington but the monument to his memory is in Acomb Church. He was father of the City at the time he died, aged 72. The monument is in the East wall of the South Transept in Acomb Church and bears his arms with the following inscription: Thomas Smith of York, Alderman twice Lord Mayor viz 1786, 1793 and who died father of the same City April 28th, 1810 aged 72. (Allen gives 79) Ann, his wife died April 10th, 1818 aged 79. Barnard Smith of Murton Hall, near York, merchant, youngest son of the said Thomas and Ann, died May 27th, 1822 aged 43. Rev William Smith AM., Rector of Hinderwell and Brandsby. Henry Smith of the City of York, 5th son of Thomas and Ann. William Sidney Smith, Ensign 16 Regt. Foot, died at Kandia. Elizabeth Haig, wife of David Haig of Westminster. James Smith, late of Leeds, merchant. [Memorials in St Stephen's Church, Acomb]. Thomas Smith of York, Alderman twice Lord Mayor second son of the said Thomas and Ann Died 30th June, 1841 aged 74 years [See Thomas Smith, Lord Mayor 1813, 1823.] Tablet in Allerton Mauleverer Church to a Smith of York. Alderman T Smith's 4th son was a Hop Merchant in London where he died in 1805. Vide York Post, Oct 28th, 1905.. Also, for this man who died in 1810. Gentleman's Magazine vol. 80, Part 1. 1810 April 28 In St. Savious Gate, York, aged 73, Thoams Smith, esq. banker, senior alderman of that corporation, and father of the city. He servied the office oif sheriff in 1778, and that of Lord Mayor in 1786 and 1793.
