Lucy Wallis (Sr Theresa of St Joseph) 1826 - 1892
Lucy Wallis (Sr Theresa of St Joseph), Entered in Naumur, Belgium to the order of the Sisters of Notre Dame on 15 Aug 1852, aged 26. At Mount Pleasant the British record says, "Sr Teresa of St. Joseph worked in close collaboration with the founding principal of the College, Sr Mary of St. Philip, Lescher". It also says that for ten years, she was confined for much of the time to her room, suffering ill health. She died aged 66 at Mount Pleasant; the entry says, "invalid, RIP". One of the first three Liverpool SNDs to get a Teaching Certificate, she achieved distinction. A reference to "zeal for the beauty of God's house" suggests that she may have been sacristan at Mount Pleasant. At the 1881 census, she was recorded as an officer at Dwelling: Convent Of Notre Dame Mount Pleasant Liverpool Census Place: Liverpool, Lancashire, England Source: FHL Film 1341868 PRO Ref RG11 Piece 3627 Folio 26 Page 1.
