Michs. 1824; Bell Scholar, 1825; Porson prize, 1827; B.A. 1828; M.A. 1831. Fellow, 1830-9; Assistant Tutor, 1834-8; Junior Bursar, 1836-9. Ord. deacon, 1837. Travelled in Europe, 1833; when in Florence collated the Medicean manuscript of Aeschylus, with a view to a new edition. Began an edition of Bentley's Correspondence (later completed by his brother Christopher). Died Dec. 31, 1839, in Cambridge. Brother of Christopher (1825)and Charles (1833). (Adm. to Trin., add. et err.; D.N.B.)
