, sp Countess de Grey. Of Wrest. Born 22 January 1750, died 4 May 1833 (aged 83). Amabel Hume-Campbell was the daughter of Philip Yorke, 2nd Earl of Hardwicke † and Lady Jemima Campbell. She was sister to Mary Jemima Yorke. She married Alexander Hume-Campbell, Viscount Polwarth, son of Hugh Hume, 3rd Earl of Marchmont, on 16 July 1772. She gained the title of Countess de Grey. Amabel lived at Fountains Hall on the Studley Royal Estate near Ripon. Her diaries cover 1769 to 1827 and give us an amazing insight into the life of an aristocrat and record the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars.
