Gervais Parker Bushe , of Kilfane. MP. 1790:July 10: Gervase Parker Bushe reads to Royal Irish Academy An essay towards ascertaining the population of Ireland in which he computes the population at 4,040,000 on basis of hearth-money returns made in 1788. (Published in Transactions of the Royal Irish Academy, iii, 1790.) Who is? Georgianna Bush-Grattan is a bit of an enigma, Professor R. B. McDowell in his recent biography of Henry Grattan makes only a vague reference to her and then only as a Bush sister. Her name is never mentioned. She seems to have been of a weak disposition and was regularly treated by Robert Emmet, State Physician, and father of the United Irishmen Robert, executed in 1803, and Thomas, imprisoned in 1798, and later Attorney General of New York. Henry Grattan was so grateful for Dr. Emmet's efforts that he presented him with a portrait in the 1780s which sat proudly in the Emmets' living room. Possibly both this portrait was painted at the same time. Unfortunately the Henry Grattan portrait was lost when Thomas Emmet went into exile and the artist is unknown. This source also gives her borth year as 1740, and that she marr. in 1761.
