Frederick Howard , Headed commission sent by Lord North to attempt reconciliation with American colonies (1778); viceroy of Ireland (1780-82); on regency question took part on side of Prince of Wales in opposition to Pitt (1789); appointed (1798) guardian of his cousin Lord Byron, the poet, who attacked him in English Bards and Scottish Reviewers. Author of two tragedies, The Father's Revenge (1783) and The Stepmother (1800), and some poems.
