Col. Evan Jones 1771 - 1821
Col. Evan Jones , of Gelliwig, co. Caern. only son. joined 23rd Foot in 1791, fought in teh West IUndies, the Helder and Egypt. Commanded teh 1st Battalion in 1807. He was fdamous for having survived a bout of yellow fever in Santo DOmingo when a native woman wrapped him in a bl;anker soaked in vinegar which "arrested the rage of that deeaful malady". He succeeded to Gelliwig in 1783.
