Robert Laurie 1806 - 1882
Robert Laurie , Norroy King at Arms (1851), Clarenceaux King of Arms (1861), of Wentworth House, The Green, Richmond, Surrey. Kathleen Watkins LAURIE goes back to William Laurie [1681-1780] baillie& merchant in Dumfries. married Margaret Milligan/Mulligan 1721 in Dumfries. Only son Robert went to London as a chirugeon in 1740s. Next generation in London includes William who inherited from grandfather, Robert mezzo-tint artist [Laurie & Whittle], John surgical instrument and truss maker. My line from John finds sons John and Charles Frewin in Bombay Artillery, Henry to Barbados in British Army. Robert as Clarenceux King of Arms, George and my William with Customs House in London. The original William Laurie has parents who cannot be found. Perhaps brothers and sisters also. Seeing that William Laurie was born 1 year apart from Annie Laurie, many researchers have jumped to the conclusion that William was a brother to Annie. But GLADSTONE's book says that Annie had no brother named William. There is quite a question in my mind as to whether William's birth family was even fom Dumfries area?
