John Laurie 1609 - ante 1670
John Laurie , eldest son. of Maxwelton. He espoused the cause of the Covenanters and was fined £3,600 by Charles I in 1662 for non-conformity - he was a Covenanter and a Cromwellian. He was also Commissioner for Dumfries sheriffdom and the stwartry of Annandale at the first session of the Convention of Estats Halden at Edinburgh from 22 June to 26 August 1643..
