Charles Lushington 1785 - 1866
Charles Lushington , M.P. Ashburton 1833-41, Westminster 1847-52, K.LCS. 1800-27; hom 14 April, 1785. He married twice. East India Company servant, sec. to the Govt. of Bengal, 1823-7. On returning to England he was elected to parliament for Ashburton, 1835-41, and then for Westminster, 1847-52. He was a reformer, favouring the ballot, triennial parliaments, and the extension of the suffrage. He opposed all religious privileges, and published three works on religious questions. S. M.
